Arduino, XPort ethernet sheild and serial LCD

Posted By on July 29, 2008

I picked up an Xport ethernet shield from LadyAda and played with it for a bit, and this is what came out.

And inside the box

This is an Arduino Diecimila with the Ethernet shield, and a SparkFun serial LCD, shoved into one of my unfamous wooden boxes. The code is very simple and very sloppy. The code has also no error checking. It just grabs the DHCP address from the XPort and displays it on the LCD. There’s also an endless loop which just outputs ASCII characters to the XPort telnet port. So when you run this, you’ll get the IP address, and can telnet to the XPort and it’ll scroll ASCII characters forever.

Since I shoved it into the box, I exposed the power, USB and ethernet ports, so this isn’t a “frozen” project. I just like this kind of stuff.
